Southampton 1-1 Sunderland

Jay Rodriguez’s late goal salvaged a point for Southampton against Sunderland at St Mary’s.

Jermain Defoe gave Sunderland the lead from the penalty spot after earning the foul 10 minutes from the full-time whistle.

But substitute Jay Rodriguez equalised with a low shot the snuck under the keeper five minutes later.

Southampton has just two points from its first three games whilst Sunderland has taken just one from a potential nine.

Manchester United 2-0 Southampton

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice, as Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford started off with a win against Southampton.

Ibrahimovic scored either side of the break, including a second half penalty, to bring his total to three goals in two league games.

French international Paul Pogba played the full 90 minutes in his return to Manchester United.

Southampton is still winless having drawn with Watford on opening day.
